Greetings to all,
It is with both a heavy
heart and an emotional mind that I prepare this letter of request.
Cpl. Robert Shickle of the Winchester Police Department was diagnosed with
cancer in the early spring of 2009. Robert is a nine year veteran of the police
department and has over eleven years of experience in law enforcement. Robert
currently serves as an officer assigned to the Community Response Team and has
done so for approximately eight months. Robert is a dedicated law enforcement
professional and an even more dedicated husband, father and son. Robert is
strongly supported in his endeavors by a loving family which consists of his
wife Megan, his three children Peyton, Isabelle and Langdon, his mother and
father, Terry and Deborah Shickle and his mother in-law Freda Yoder and
father-in law Jan Yoder.
Robert was diagnosed in the spring of 2009 with cancer in his mouth. Robert was
taken to Baltimore Maryland where surgery was performed and the tumors were
removed. Robert was given extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments which
prolonged his recovery and return to everyday activities. In the winter of 2009
and early 2010, Robert began his recovery and even eventually returned to work
on a light duty status helping in and around the office as he was able. Robert
was looking forward to a full recovery and returning to work in a normal
capacity in or around the late spring of 2010. In March of 2010, Robert received
the devastating news that there were more tumors found in and around the same
area of his mouth and he would require yet another surgery and further
treatment.
While this news is both devastating and heartbreaking, we as family, friends and
co-workers have to remain focused and steadfast on the tasks which lay ahead.
Robert will again be required to undergo treatments which will prevent his
return to work and enjoyment of everyday activities for an unknown period of
time. With his current situation weighing heavily on both Robert and his family,
I feel that everything else can be made a little easier by those of us who are
in a position to help Robert and his family with the smaller comforts such as
not worrying about finances and medical bills etc. I am preparing this letter as
a request for any help the friends and co-workers of Robert and his family can
give to show support to the Shickle family and ease the burdens for which they
are about to undergo.
Several dedicated and heroic individuals from behind the scenes have on their
own begun to prepare a fundraiser for the Shickle family and are asking for help
from you. There will be a spaghetti dinner and auction held on Saturday, May 15,
2010 at the Winchester Moose Lodge located on Cork Street; with dinner being
served from 4pm-8pm and auction starting at 7pm. Tickets will be sold in advance
for this fundraiser and ALL PROCEEDS will go to support the Shickle family in
their time of need. We are asking for any support you or your company can
provide (ex. products and/or monetary donations) to assist us with this
fundraiser and help make it a success for the Shickle family.
Anyone wanting to purchase tickets, participate or make
donations can do so by contacting the below individuals.
