Charles Hollowood

Charles Hollowood, SWAT officer with the Southeast VA Chapter of SSPBA has served for over nine years with Portsmouth Police Department. When officers who hung out where Holowood worked as bartender tried to recruit him, it took three years of persuasion before he was convinced to become an officer himself.

It took VAPBA Division President Jason Knorowski another nine years to convince Hollowood to join PBA. With over 1000 hours of tactical training and nine years without having to use his weapon in the line of duty, “I did not believe I would need it, besides, being an FOP member, I didn’t feel like I needed both,” he said.

He joined PBA in March 2007 and within only a few months a shooting incident occurred in the line of duty. Refraining from details due to legalities, Hollowood emphasizes that PBA’s response has been “phenomenal: the peace of mind is unbelievable.” This says a lot coming from a guy so careful about his decisions, and whose checkbook is balanced down to the cent.

Chuck, as his buddies call him, enjoys working out and running. He has participated for seven years in the Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics and the Mud Run, a five mile cross-country marathon benefiting the armed forces YMCA. He had to miss one of each event while battling cancer from 2005-2006, but he was back in the Mud Run this past August battling the heat and he is looking forward to the Torch Run this Spring.
