VAPBA Legislative Update 03-03-10 |

PBA Members, Budget bill HB 1500 has passed both houses. The bill contains a 5% retirement cost to State employees, with a 5% pay increase to offset the State employee contribution. There is no defined contribution plan introduced in the bill and there are no changes to the local employee cost for the Virginia Retirement System in the bill. The general feeling among the labor representatives is that we were able to hold the line this year on VRS employee cost but the fight starts over again for next session. Planning for our State Representatives screening process has begun and I look forward to a very active screening and election season. Conducting many screenings for State and local offices gives us a louder voice during the legislative session, I encourage you to get involved in your chapters political activity. Planning our legislative agenda is an ongoing process and I thank all members who have attended chapter meetings recently and talked with me about important legislative ideas. In September we will finalize our 2012 legislative agenda at our annual State Board meeting. The PBA vehicle license plate program is up and running on line. HB2128 will increase the number of prepaid applications from 350 to 450. If we can obtain and submit 350 applications before July 1 we will be able to submit under the current law. I have already sent in for PBA tags on my personal car and motorcycle, please take the time now to register on line or print and send in an application. Your credit card will not be charged until we reach the required number of applications, CLICK HERE! As always, the list contains bills of interest to law enforcement and are provided for your information. Sean McGowan Follow us on Facebook and Twitter
